Interest Groups and Primary Relationships

FAN relates to its interest groups based on a primacy of independence and transparency that characterizes its actions. Specifically, the interest groups and guiding principles for institutional performance are, as follows:

  • Civil Society
    • 9 lowland and highland indigenous organization, 23 TCOs (native community land), 9 producers associations, 24 individual communities.

    FAN has been working to integrate different actors from this sector so they will adhere to biodiversity conservation by way of alliances, projects, and joint actions, dialogue, the search for consensus, and shared information. FAN has been working extensively and closely with the indigenous and rural communities linked to these priority areas and biodiversity conservation initiatives.

  • Private Sector

    For FAN the independence of its technical opinion and the transparency of its actions are fundamental. FAN believes it is vital to support government institutions relating to biodiversity conservation in a proactive manner through joint actions, and with technical tools and foundations to guide decision-making and policies in favor of conservation.

    FAN establishes alliances with other environmental institutions and complementary sectors in order to strengthen its actions and achieve greater impact in biodiversity conservations. When working in partnership with others, FAN learns from its partners and integrates lessons learned into its capacities, but it also supports the development of its partners' capacities for biodiversity conservation management.
