Project Challenges

- Efficient project coordination in a distant country

- Take cultural factors into account that can have an influence on project execution

- Synchronize REDD Bolivia and REDD Cameroon agendas.

Objectives

Cameroon has scientifically validated and politically agreed upon projections, indicating the potential to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD).

Results

The referential REDD scenario has been established nationally according to the 2006 Intergovernmental Climate Change Panel and the decisions made during the COP Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC):

  • The methodologies applied in Bolivia and Cameroon have been coordinated.
  • Degradation was detected in the East province of Cameroon.
  • Biomass measurement samples of deforestation and degradation have been designed according to the IPCC 2006.
  • Economic scenarios on the advances of deforestation and degradation have been developed.
  • Spatial projections of deforestation and econometric projections of emissions from degradation have been prepared.
  • The correlation between key factor and the level of deforestation has been determined.
  • An exchange of experiences took place between Bolivia and Cameroon during the bi-national workshop.
Use of the products after the project has concluded
  • Effective coordination of the project in a distant country.
  • Take into account cultural factors that can have an influence on project execution.
  • Synchronize REDD Bolivia and REDD Cameroon agendas.
