Objectives

The NK-CAP is contributing to the mitigation of climate change, conservation of the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park (NKMNP), and improvement of access to means of living for communities neighboring the park.

Expected results

A conservation and integral protection system has been consolidated for the project site in the Park with participation by local stakeholders:

  • The project site has received technical, financial and logistical assistance to implement its protection system:
    • The Management Committee had financial resources and operated regularly, fulfilling its functions and exercising its representation.
    • The protection infrastructure has been expanded and improved upon substantially.
    • Patrols and operations in the area received funding in a timely manner.
    • The Protection Corps was given adequate equipment had sufficient timely funding to operate.
  • The program was efficiently managed and remains connected to local entities in the NKMNP:
    • The program, its personnel and its financial resources were well managed.
    • The Integral Protection Plan was a result of joint coordination and implementation between FAN and Park Management.
    • Local representation and coordination with the project with departmental, municipal and local authorities and in Management Committee meetings.
  • The effectiveness of protecting this site has been guaranteed with technical support and monitoring:
    • The Integral Protection Plan (IPP) was adjusted and validated with park rangers.
    • Monitoring of the Integral Protection Plan (IPP) was carried out by FAN and Park Management.
    • Technical assistance to Park Management in scheduling and executing patrols, prioritization for the provision of supplies and other joint activities.
  • Community participation for site protection has been strengthened:
    • Agreements with community authorities to develop strategies and actions for their involvement in protecting the site.
    • Financial and logistical support provided to local stakeholders during events that are of interest to the Program.
  • Human threats have been monitored
    • Monitoring of hot spots in and around the project site.
    • Financial and logistical support for aerial patrols and emergency land patrols to verify fires in the park.
  • The feasibility of carbon credit certification has been verified through consistent recording of information.
    • The monitoring plan approved through periodic certification has been fulfilled.
    • Consulting has been provided for the carbon credits sales process.
    • The project has been certified according to international standards and the NK CAP Framework Agreement for the 2006-2008 period.
  • Management of the NK CAP has been achieved as a pilot climate change project according to the standards defined by the Bolivian Government and the Project Board of Directors.
    • The management, planning, and technical and financial follow-up system is operating effectively and efficiently.
    • The NK CAP is well positioned and recognized by strategic public.
